Some second year PA students tend to get caught up in their clinical rotations and forget some of the medical knowledge that they acquired during the didactic year. Additionally, very few students learn or retain all of the data that was presented to them. The result is that most students have some deficiencies in their medical data base by the time that they complete the PA curriculum. An end-of-program Board Review would be good for all PA students, especially those who had a little difficulty during the normal matriculation. OUTSOURCING Your faculty could conduct a Board Review for your students by reviewing the lecture notes that they presented when they taught the initial courses. We believe that a different type of review and testing, with individualized study recommendations, will enhance their performance. Our unique approach will help your students identify the deficiencies in their medical data base in a non-pressure-type environment. We provide them with a proven tool to use to increase their knowledge and recall. We have been doing this since 1990 and have a better than 99% success rate. We don’t just throw material at them, we direct their study, facilitate their learning and improve their recall of an even larger medical data base. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLOGY The instructional methodology is based upon proven learning theory and involves reading, writing (typing), recall and repetition of learned facts in order to improve retention. What we have done here at MEDEX Enterprises, Inc. is designed a one page form that is essentially a special “expanded SOAP note” with blank spaces for medical data. Students are required to identify key words and phrases to complete the categories on the “expanded SOAP note” form. EVALUATIONAL METHODOLOGY Students are required to complete timed self-evaluation quizzes on each disease or disorder they select. After completing the required number of “expanded SOAP notes” and passing the fill-in-the-blank quizzes, then students are allowed to take a series of timed examinations composed of multiple choice questions. We score the quizzes and examinations and provide the student with feedback to allow them to monitor their own progress and improvement. All of this is performed on our secured interactive web site. The evaluation methodology involves repeated recall and generation of information, filling in the blanks on the series of quizzes and recognition of information on the series of multiple choice questions type examinations. TIME REQUIREMENT When the course was conducted initially in the face-to-face format it was approved by the American Academy of Physician Assistants, AAPA for 100 hours of Category I CME credit. It is now being offered in an internet based interactive format. The course requires approximately 100 hours of study time and generally takes about three months to complete. However, it is presented in a self-instructional format and can be completed at the students own pace. SPECIAL DISCOUNT RATE If the PA program wants to provide this course to their students and pays for the entire class, the cost for the course will be discounted to one hundred fifty dollars per student as opposed to the regular individual student rate of two hundred fifty dollars. If the PA Program enrolls more than fifty (50) senior students or enrolls both their junior and senior classes, a larger discount is possible. Contact us for these special rate quotes.
