A. If I register for the regular MEDEX board review course can I change to the new "Test Only" option without paying an additional fee?
Yes, you can change to the Test Only option without paying anything extra. All you have to do is send us an e-mail message requesting the change. No justification for the request is necessary. However, you must end the request with the word "Signed" and then you must type your full name below it to authorize the change.
Please be advised that this change may void the tuition refund guarantee and the ability to earn CME unless you still complete and submit the required 100 expanded SOAP note assignments.
1. What is the difference between “Christian” medical education and “regular” medical education?
MEDEX Enterprises, Inc. is a Christ centered corporation. Our mission is to help people, in a Christian manner, enjoy healthier, happier, productive lives.
The Bible provides the basis for the underlying principles of the MEDEX Corporation. We treat people as we would like to be treated (Matthew 7:12). We believe that:
- a wise person will want to increase their knowledge (Proverbs 1:5);
- if we teach a wise person, they will be wiser (Proverbs 9:9);
- all should study, diligently, to be approved (2 Timothy 2:15);
- whatever you do, you should do your best (Ecclesiastes 9:10); and
- people who are a blessing to others will themselves be blessed (Proverbs 11:25).
We believe that every student admitted into a PA program should graduate and every graduate PA should pass the Boards. Our MEDEX National Board Examination Preparation and Review Course was developed to help individuals learn more, increase their medical knowledge data base and improve their ability to remember and recall more medical information. Complete our board review course and if you don’t pass the Boards, we will refund your tuition. That is just the Christian thing to do.
2. How much time will it take for me to complete this review course?
The MEDEX PA board review course is a self-paced, self-instructional, self-evaluational course. The amount of time you will need to complete the course depends upon you, how fast you type, whether you are recopying a good set of lecture/study notes, or are having to look up each disease in three or more reference books.
Our general guidelines suggest that you allow one hour for completion of each of the 100 expanded SOAP notes, ten minutes for each quiz, and one hour for each multiple choice examination. Following these guidelines the MEDEX review course will take approximately 125 hours to complete, or about 2 hours per day for 2 months. In the past our course participants have generally taken from three to six months to complete the course.
3. What happens if I start the course but do not finish it, can I get a refund?
Once you enroll in the MEDEX Enterprises, Inc. National Board Examination Preparation and Review Course, space is set aside for you on our server. Your information is then included in composite participant results reports. The very fact that you did not finish the course becomes a part of our permanent data base. So, the answer to your question is that you will not get a refund. However, we would like to know why you dropped out of the course and would appreciate your sharing that information with us. That will help us improve the course in the future.
4. Are there directions available for completing the expanded SOAP note homework assignments?
Yes, if you click on the help button on the bottom of the systems page, the page that lists all of the diseases for that system, a window will pop up and offer directions for completing the assignments including a list of reference textbooks.
This same pop-up window will appear if you click on the underlined text at the top of the page with the file folders labeled "systems" and "account info" which reads "Click here for directions to the expanded SOAP note homework assignments".
5. What is the meaning of the expanded SOAP note category " significant negatives"?
You can find the meanings of the category titles if you click on the help button at the of the page on the expanded SOAP note. A pop-up window should appear offering a series of definitions and explanations for each of the categories.
If this is not sufficient to answer your questions, please send us an e-mail message and we will contact you with a detailed answer and a follow-up telephone call if necessary.
6. Do I have to fill in all of the blank spaces on the expanded SOAP note form in order for it to be counted as completed?
No! At MEDEX Enterprises we recognize that there are vastly different amounts of information on each of the diseases and some of the information requested is simply unknown. There are spaces for approximately one hundred twenty (120) separate bits of data on the expanded SOAP note form. If you have fifty (50) or more bits of information on a disease it will be counted as completed.
7. What if I have a problem and need help with completing one of the expanded SOAP notes?
Send us an e-mail message and explain the problem and we will get back to you. However, if the problem is a medical content issue with respect to filling out the expanded SOAP note form, you will be directed to additional information on the "frequently asked questions" , "expanded SOAP note directions" or "definition of terms" sectionof the MEDEX website for help regarding the meaning and uses of each content area on the form. If the problem is one that requires technical assistance in navigating the system, one that we cannot resolve with our on line “help menus”, then we will e-mail you the appointment times for person-to-person telephone technical assistance.
8. Can the expanded SOAP note homework assignments be completed as a group effort by my study group?
No! The MEDEX Enterprises, Inc. national board examination certification and recertification preparation and review course is designed for your individual use only. Additionally, you have agreed not to share the course or its contents as part of the legal documents that you had to agree to prior to beginning the course. You could be sued for sharing this with others.
9. What happens if I start an expanded SOAP note on a disease and then decide that I don’t want to do that one, can I erase it?
In the MEDEX Enterprises board review course, if you just stop working on a particular expanded SOAP note and exit that page, the system will automatically store it as an incomplete file. It will be available to you whenever you want to resume working on it. You cannot erase it or delete it. If you choose never to complete it, there will not be any penalty and nothing will be held against you. It will become a part of your permanent file and our aggregate database. If a number of course participants also start the same disease and do not complete it, this information will help us modify the course in the future.
10. Can I do more than the required ten expanded SOAP notes per organ system?
Yes! In fact, completing more than the minimum would be encouraged. When we first offered the MEDEX board review course the participants had to complete two hundred (200) expanded SOAP notes.
11. Is there a limit on the number of incomplete expanded SOAP notes that I can have stored?
There is no limit on the number of expanded SOAP notes that you may store on the MEDEX system, completed or incomplete. However, the more of them that you complete, the better it will be for you in the long run.
12. If I misspell a word on one of the quizzes will it still count?
The MEDEX board review course is is not an English course. As long as the system can recognize the word that you intended to enter it will be accepted. It is, however, much better for you as a professional to learn the correct spelling of words in your medical data base and improve your vocabulary.
13. Why is the passing score set at seventy-five percent?
After years of testing PA students and comparing their scores with their national board results, all of the students who scored seventy-five percent or higher on the MEDEX quizzes and examinations passed the boards. Period.
14. How many times can I retake a SOAP quiz on a particular disease in order to get a passing score?
As part of the MEDEX board review course you may repeat a quiz on a disease as many times as you want to obtain a passing score. It is suggested that you spend some time rereading it two or three times before repeating the quiz. It is also recommended that you wait twenty-four (24) hours before you retake the quiz. This will test and improve your long term memory.
15. Can I retake a quiz on a disease after I have passed it in order to test my recall of the information at a later date?
Yes!
16. Why can’t I download the expanded SOAP note forms and examinations and save them on my personal computer?
This course and its contents are the sole property of MEDEX Enterprises, Inc. The fees that you paid allowed you temporary individual use of them. In order to avoid illegal copying, distribution or sale of this material, the system has been designed to block any and all attempts to download or save it to any personal computer. We will be notified of any such attempts and by doing so you may be barred from further participation in the course and forfeit your money. You may be sued if it is determined that you violated the contract that you agreed to at the beginning of the course.
17. Is it possible to skip doing the expanded SOAP note homework assignments and go straight to taking the multiple choice examinations?
If you feel that your medical data base is sufficient, you may initially skip the completion of the expanded SOAP notes and go directly to the fill-in-the-blank, expanded SOAP note quizzes. You may continue in this advanced mode in the MEDEX course until you pass the required number of quizzes (100) and then you may begin the multiple choice examinations. However, if you fail three quizzes, you will then be required to complete the required expanded SOAP notes and follow the normal course matriculation.
18. Can I take more than ten multiple choice examinations?
Yes.
19. How can I report a grammatical error or medical content error in one of the examination questions?
You may contact us via the special Error Report e-mail box at the bottom of each page if you identify an error. Just follow the directions as indicated on the pop-up window. Either the MEDEX board review course coordinator or the technical support specialist will contact you.
20. How long will my SOAP notes, quizzes and examination scores be available for me to use?
Normally, once you have completed the MEDEX board review course, all of this information will be stored in your file on our system until the next administration of the national board examination. However, if you choose to delay sitting for the national board exam, you must let us know when you plan to sit for the exam so that we can make special arrangement for storing your data. We will not hold your information for more than six months without notification.
21. Can first year PA students enroll in the course?
Yes, but they must identify themselves as such so that we can program our MEDEX data storage system to hold their data for two years.
22. Will the faculty members of my PA Program get the scores of my quizzes and examinations?
If your participation in the MEDEX national board examination certification and recertification preparation and review course is paid for by your PA Program, then and only then do they have the right to receive your scores.
23. Can medical students enroll in the course?
This MEDEX board review course was designed with physician assistant students in mind. That said, medical knowledge is medical knowledge and third and fourth year medical students may also benefit from this course and they would be allowed to enroll. There would not be a money back guarantee for them that they would pass their board examination.
24. Do you allow physicians who are graduates from foreign/international medical schools (FMGs/IMGs) to enroll in the course?
The MEDEX Enterprises national board examination certification and recertification preparation and review course was designed with American physician assistant students in mind. It is offered only in English and may not cover the diseases common to foreign countries. International medical graduates who seek licensure to practice medicine in the United States may also benefit from the MEDEX board review course and they would be allowed to enroll. There would not be a money back guarantee for them that they would pass Flex or the national board examination.
25. What happens if I decide not to take the NCCPA exam the very next time that it is offered after I complete the course?
You would have to contact us and advise us as to when you plan to sit for the national board examination so that special arrangement could be made for your file.
26. How do I get my money back if I fail the national boards after passing the course?
You would have to contact us and mail copies of the information from the NCCPA as proof that you did not pass the examination. Within thirty (30) days of receipt of the required information, we will send you our recommendations for further study and a check for the course tuition.
27. How many times may I repeat the course?
You may repeat the MEDEX board review course two times. If you have taken the MEDEX course three times and failed the boards three times, then as much as we hate to say this, regrettably we probably cannot help you.
